Important Paperwork Coming Home!

Hello all,

I sent our information home about our Social Studies inquiry.  We are getting ready to interview YOU, a family member, all about our family heritage!

Please read the information notice and complete the attached information WITH your child - all printing to be done in your child's hand please - return to school with a family artifact for our Family Artifact Museum!  Please send completed work and artifact by Tuesday at the latest, so we can practice speaking and sharing our questions, comments and information in our room before the artifacts go back home. 

We will make our papers into books - a Family Heritage Interview class book and an Artifact Memories class book.  Artifacts will be put safely on display and then returned to you next Friday, Feb. 7th

Ask me about: the book, "Over and Under the Snow".  We are drawing and writing about our ideas! 

Ask me if I can start on (any number between 0 and 100) and count to (another number between 0 and 100).  For counting forward, we use any numbers, for counting backwards we typically focus between 0 and 20, but some kids are up for the backwards from any number challenge! 

Ask me if I can tell you 1 or 2 more (is that adding or subtracting?)  Ask me if I can tell you 1 or 2 less?  We've been challenging ourselves to think of these about any numbers to 100!  Our focus for solving addition and subtraction would stop at 20.  The concept of number relations as moving forward 1 or 2 more, or moving backward 1 or 2 less, is encouraged all the way up to 100!  A great brain challenge! 

Keep on practicing grouping and counting by 2's, 5's and 10's!  Can I take a random handful of "stuff" and show some great ways to count and organize it into groups! 

Now can I also take a given number and think about how to "draw" or represent what that could look like!
