As an added note: if you have a large, bulky or fragile and hard to transport item and need to drop it off, please bring it before or after school. (no pianos please!) Make sure is it labeled for our classroom: Ms. Palsich room 248. I can hold onto it until you are able to pick it up again if it is too cumbersome for your child to transport. I will stay until just before the movie starts on movie night, so that is a good time to drop off to me!
At school today, we discussed and saw examples of some Artifact ideas!
These include, but are not limited to:
books
music, - sheet, album, etc
jewelry
dishes, pots, pans
laundry items, such as a wash board
old curling iron, hair brush, comb, scissors, mirror
iron or other household implements or tools of any kind
lamp, light, lunchbox
spectacles (glasses)
quilts, blankets or other bedding
special family photos
or photo of a larger item like piano, car, truck, bicycle
a special family recipe handed down - your child could print it out on a special card and accompany it with a photo (or photocopy) of the original - or send the original in a protective sheet
old toys, games
art work, needle work, embroidery, doilies, or sewing, knitting, crochet, of any kind that has been in your family for generation(s), or even since your child was a baby
christening gown
special adornment or regalia worn for special occasions - that has perhaps been passed down in the family, or is something special that you will keep as a keepsake even after your child grows out of it!
Your artifact MIGHT be something you have that is NOT so old, but you know it's a keepsake you will hold onto and thereby you, your family and your child are growing a family history and heritage, much like your collection of photos and albums etc...
We talked about Artifacts being our own personal family history, so even though some may be very old - others may be newer in comparison, but they are things that have special meaning or significance to your family and might also have a cultural value or significance as well - this will be a different kind of story for every family!
Again, I am sharing examples at school with the students, but we ask that everyone choose one thing!
Our students are very excited about our museum for next week!
Feel free to send paper work sooner if it's complete, but send our museum items on Monday or Tuesday please! *(unless you need special drop off as above)
