Happy Thanksgiving

Have a safe and happy long weekend!

We had an AMAZING walk and public library time yesterday morning!

We worked hard through the process of creating our Cards that came home.  We had to think about printing, spacing, direction.  We had some template pieces for support, but the expectation was for each child to cut and create their own "tail feather patterns" and other details to add on to their turkeys!  We are still exploring ideas of "Gratitude" and "being thankful" next week and will carry this on connected to citizenship and community, as well as decision making and personal goals and choices within the learning community.

Home reading is starting next week! Yeh!   A letter will accompany and I will post that relevant reading information here as well.  Most importantly this is meant to be a "FUN" share with your child and a celebration of your child's learning.  Sometimes this takes some patience in allowing your child to reach the desire to share with you at home vs "doing a must do homework". Your approach to celebration attitude and building confidence by saying "wow, great reading", no matter what level of difficulty the text is, will make a difference for your child's attitude towards reading.  If in doubt about how "home reading" is going at home, always let your child decide if they are comfortable reading that book to you and offer to read it to them instead!

Your most important Grade One Homework is always to share time, conversation, games, outings and activities with your child and take time to curl up cozy with a favourite book to share - making literacy fun and interactive; a social family time for your child!  They will naturally graduate to independent literacy choices, which is the learning we are supporting at school.
