Meet the Teacher Night Information

Information about Raz kids log in, and our school Opera was handed out at Meet the Teacher, or I have since sent it home to you!  Please send all the bags back on Monday!

Please complete the bottom slip of Raz Kids - by sending me your email, I can enter it, which then allows you access to see what your child is doing!

New folders coming home Monday - Please Return EVERY DAY even if empty!  I prefer you empty it at home every day and send any school notices back in it, or notes to me, but it must come back to school EVERY DAY.  It may come home empty as well!

*If you haven't already, please complete, sign and return all forms to school inside the folder coming on Monday

We follow a 6 day cycle this year; Mon Sept 16th - day 2
*Fridays are Day 0 in our 6 day cycle

Recess 11:00 - 11:18 (Small snack to take outside)

Lunch 12:30 -1:18 PM
20 minutes to eat with supervision then students head outside to play
*Playground schedule: Mondays and Wednesdays
This means the "play structure" otherwise kids play on the compound or the field when it's not their day!

Early Dismissal Fridays: 9:10-1:20 PM
*Please meet your child at a designated meeting spot regardless of weather if they are picked up at the end of the day
 Dress for the weather!

Backpacks:
  1.  Non-drip water bottle
  2.  Send any labeled bags and folders (new ones Monday) back to school each day, even if they are empty! Sorry for the confusion! We did not understand that we would not have agendas this year!
  3. Starting next week on Fridays students will bring home a special Home Journal inside their folders and it should be returned on Mondays.
  4.  Large labeled Zip lock will be for Library books soon!
  5.  Library:  Grade 1 can sign out 2 books at a time and books travel in zip lock inside backpacks.
  6.  Home reading will roll out after Thanksgiving inside it's own little bag - also a daily back and forth job!
  7.  Recess snack packed separately for easy access
  8.  Pack change of clothes and especially socks or pants for those wet weather days when sometimes a change is needed
We would happily accept gently used PANTS, preferably stretchy leggings or sweats for young boys and girls at the office!  If you wish to donate new, unopened offerings of underpants as well that would be greatly appreciated!  There are always accidents to contend with!

Please Check our classroom Blog regularly for learning updates

Other Needs for Learning in the Classroom/school:

- Students are asked to bring in a labelled headset in a clearly marked bag for technology activities
these do not need to be fancy or expensive - just inside a labelled zip lock with child's name and teacher's name
- Students need APPROPRIATE indoor shoes, suitable for exercise activities in the gym
**If your child cannot yet tie laces independently, please try to send velcro for safety and independence

Classroom Routines in a 6 Day Cycle:
  • Literacy Block:
      • Daily Five - right now learning expectations for "read to self"
      • Read aloud and book/story talk
      • Book look/read and share
      • Read to others or to buddy in grade 4
      • Modeled, shared and interactive writing
      • Student modeled and independent writing
      • Group or partner talk and share
      • Sound (phonemic and phonologic work) daily
      • Word Work daily
      • Raz Kids - (A-Z on line Home Reading) log in info sent home
      • Home reading to launch in October
  • Technology embedded across curriculum, but often linked to research, record, explore, and literacy times
  • Number Talks - what we know and understand about numbers and some every day classroom numbers each day: how many days of school (counting up to 100), how many students in class today, what day in the 6 day cycle, what DATE on the calendar
  • Mathematics beyond number- links to STEM - geometry, spacial awareness, patterning - daily
  • Math sheets your child may bring home are part of a weekly school math challenge - these are a student choice and completed pages are entered into a weekly draw on Fridays
  • Science and Social overlap with Literacy and Art - and tend to flip flop from month to month or every couple weeks; ie entry to school focus on community, getting to know each other, how we get along, next week a bigger science focus for seasonal changes and heading into Autumn!
  • Physical Education: 4 out of 6 day cycle in gym/outside with Mr. J.  Fridays and other days physical activity or brain gym with teacher
  • Music: 2 out of 6 day cycle with Mrs. Smith in Music Room, Daily songs, rhymes, chants and movement to music in classroom

THANK YOU!
My apologies for the looooonnngggg blog post - we were asked to share our slide information from meet the teacher night and it was longer than I realized

I'm interested in finding someone who cuts their
own trees or knows someone... and would be willing
to cut tree chips for art and science!

- enough for 86 or so grade ones!

Today we saw and heard real Opera singing by an Opera singer in the gym!

Reminder: Tuesday next week is our first community walk!  Dress for the weather!
