100 Day Activities and Editing our Writing!

Sorry, for some reason this did not publish last week, but saved as a draft and I've only just realized...

Today (Thursday Feb 20th) we made 100 day crowns, which we kept here to wear to our assembly tomorrow!

We took the time to look at groups of 10 for this job!

When it comes home I should be able to show and count by 10's!

We also practiced movement to 100, using count by 2's, 5's and 10's to experience which way is quicker and compare how many movements (like jumping jacks) we actually did:

For example:

- jump to 100 counting by 2's
- look at the 100 chart and identify how we count by 2's, starting at 0
- are these even or odd numbers?
- noticing that each column on the chart that has a 2, 4, 6, 8, etc is 10 numerals in length (because we've counted by tens starting on any number, we know that each column has 10 numbers)
- how many columns when we count by 2's?
- in this way we discovered that if we say "10" and count up by 10's for each column and there are 5 columns, that means we actually did 50 jumping jacks when counting by 2's!

We did lots of movement breaks in this fashion today.

Students are still invited to bring any "100" items for counting and comparing if they like!

We have started group editing some shared writing on chart paper!

We are editing for:

- appropriate spaces between words
- using line space correctly
- watching for upper or lower case letters
- watching for tall or short letters
- starting a sentence with upper case for first letter of the first word
- using upper case for "I" when it is a word
- making sure we have a sentence that is a message with a complete idea
- putting periods at the end of sentences
